From Outrage to Action: How We Fight for the Second Amendment
By Doris Wise, Founder, Jews Can Shoot
“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.” It is simple, clear, and revolutionary. It does not grant a right—it protects a pre-existing, natural right to self-defense. It does not apply only to militias—it applies to the people. And it does not allow for “reasonable” restrictions that gut its core purpose—it says shall not be infringed. This right to keep and bear arms is a virtual anomaly in the modern world. Most countries have no such provision. In the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Germany, and Israel, citizens must ask for permission to own even basic firearms, often with severe restrictions or outright bans. In most of Europe, self-defense is not even considered a valid reason to own a gun. In many countries, you are expected to be a passive victim. But not in America. The Founders understood that a government that can take away your arms can take away your freedom. The Second Amendment was written not for deer hunting or target shooting, but as a final safeguard against tyranny. It exists because the authors of the Constitution knew that disarmament precedes oppression. History has proven them right. At Jews Can Shoot, we take that lesson personally.
In 1938, Nazi Germany enacted the Regulations Against Jews’ Possession of Weapons, stripping Jews of their right to own firearms. That decree did not come out of nowhere. It was built on years of registration laws and “common sense” restrictions. By the time it was enforced, the German Jewish population was defenseless. The consequences were catastrophic.
We know what happens when the state decides who needs a firearm. We know what happens when people are told to rely on the police or the government for protection. We know what it means when the powerful tell the weak to disarm for their own good.
That is why we move from outrage to action.
We educate citizens about the true purpose of the Second Amendment and how quickly it can be undermined through complacency or fear. We challenge gun control narratives that ignore history and erase reality. We speak truth loudly and unapologetically at a time when silence is comfortable but dangerous.
We teach that armed self-defense is not only a constitutional right—it is a moral obligation. We support training, community preparedness, and the refusal to be helpless in the face of rising antisemitism, violent crime, or authoritarian overreach.
The battle for the Second Amendment is not just about policy. It is about identity. It is about the kind of people we choose to be: submissive and dependent, or free and prepared.
Jews Can Shoot
Because disarmament leads to persecution
Because self-defense is a human right
Because “Never Again” is meaningless if we are unarmed
